I have texted Ravens Pro Bowl linebacker Terrell Suggs several times since he tore his Achilles tendon against the Denver Broncos in the season opener, but he has not gotten back to me.
So when I saw him on the sideline Sunday, I thought I'd try again because I wanted to catch up and say, "Merry Christmas," and, "Happy New Year."
I also wanted to know if he had told the Ravens he was going to return next season and ask him a question about the mug hat he wore on the sideline with No. 92 on it.
Was that in honor of some new player on the roster or in memory of his old friend and former teammate, Haloti Ngata, whom the Ravens traded to Detroit during the offseason after nine years in Baltimore?
Knowing Suggs like I do, he couldn't help himself, and did that in honor of the Ravens' old defensive tackle. I don't know this for sure, but I bet the Ravens weren't too happy. Suggs has virtually disappeared since Sept. 13, yet he comes back for a cameo on the sidelines wearing his best friend's number.
The Ravens might want to fine Suggs or they could just dismiss it as another day with No. 55. Sometimes, he can't help himself. I've always liked Suggs and Ngata. They were great players and tough guys. I get the friendship thing.
But just to clear things up, I really wish Suggs would text or email me back. Come on, big fella, holler at your favorite sports columnist.
One other thing: Happy new year, No. 55.
