Joe Flacco weighs in on new extra-point rule, inflation of footballs

"Everybody likes the football their way," said Ravens Joe Flacco. "That’s why I make sure our guys rub the balls down in a certain way, have them rub a couple balls down and make sure I like it." (Kevin Richardson/Baltimore Sun video)

When the Ravens break the huddle after touchdowns this fall, they'll have more decisions to contemplate than in the past.

With the extra point moved back to the 15-yard line and the two-point conversion remaining at the 2-yard line, NFL teams are facing a debate on whether to go for two or kick the longer extra point.

An uptick in two-point conversion attempts has been predicted, but quarterback Joe Flacco was noncommittal on whether he believes there will be a lot of change.

"I have no idea, I really don't know," Flacco said. "The only thing I can think of is I wouldn't think that you would just naturally go for a two-point conversion, more so. I'm not the coach though.

"There may be a couple more misses here and there, and I guess in order to make up for that miss, maybe teams will go for two the next time. I don't know. I'm sure it will work out so that there are a couple more two-point conversions, but we'll see."

Meanwhile, Flacco laughed when asked about how he likes footballs to be inflated in the wake of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady being suspended four games for his alleged role in the Deflategate scandal. The Patriots were also fined $1 million and docked first- and fourth-round draft picks.

"Do I have to comment on that?" Flacco said. "Listen, everybody likes the football their way. That's why I make sure our guys rub the balls down in a certain way, have them rub a couple balls down and make sure I like it. And once they have the ball the way I like it, I trust them to do that from that point forward."
