Jim Caldwell to interview for Titans' head-coaching job later this week

Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell is scheduled to interview with the Tennessee Titans later this week, according to Fritz Pollard Alliance chairman John Wooten.

This will be Caldwell's third interview for a head-coaching vacancy since the Ravens' season ended.

Caldwell has previously interviewed with the Washington Redskins on Sunday and the Detroit Lions on Friday.

Caldwell is a former Indianapolis Colts and Wake Forest head coach who went 26-22 with the Colts where he coached Peyton Manning.

"We think the Titans are a pretty good shot for Jim," Wooten told The Baltimore Sun in a telephone interview Monday. "He's deserving of all of this. Jim's a great teacher. He's won as a head coach. He's developed quarterbacks. He's been a good overall coach. He'll get in there later this week and sit down with the Titans."

Caldwell met with Redskins team officials, including general manager Bruce Allen, at team headquarters on Sunday in Ashburn, Va., after traveling to Detroit on Friday to meet with Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr., quarterback Matthew Stafford and general manager Martin Mayhew.

With the Titans, Caldwell is expected to meet with CEO Tommy Smith and general manager Ruston Webster.

At each stop on his interview tour, Caldwell has arrived with a detailed plan for improvement for each teams' young quarterback. That includes Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and Stafford. He's expected to have a similar presentation and background information on Titans quarterback Jake Locker, who finished the season on injured reserve.

Caldwell has been recommended highly to teams by the Fritz Pollard Alliance Foundation, an organization that promotes diversity and equality of opportunities in NFL coaching, front office and scouting departments.

Caldwell replaced Cam Cameron as offensive coordinator with the Ravens last year, helping the team win Super Bowl XLVII as quarterback Joe Flacco had 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions in four playoff games. The Ravens finished 29th in total offense this season, though, as Flacco set a franchise record with 22 interceptions.

"Jim is going through the process and remaining patient and enjoying the interaction with all of the teams," Wooten said. "He's pleased and we're pleased with the response and feedback he's gotten from the teams."
