The Ravens have designated inside linebacker Jameel McClain and Pro Bowl offensive guard Marshal Yanda on the physically unable to perform list.
McClain is recovering from a spinal cord contusion from last season, and Yanda is recuperating from offseason shoulder surgery on his rotator cuff.
They can be activated at any time during training camp. If they're activated, they're no longer eligible for the reserve physically unable to perform list to start the season.
McClain is optimistic about his chances to play again after suffering a scary injury last December against the Washington Redskins that didn't require surgery.
At his football camp in July, McClain said that he felt great, but acknowledged it's in the doctors' hands.
"I'm in shape, I'm working hard, I'm trimming up and getting ready for the season," McClain said. "It's time for gametime. It's in the doctors' hands.
"All I can do is prepare myself the best that I can and be in the best of shape like I am. I've done everything I can. It's in the Lord's hands now."
McClain has no restrictions on his exercise regimen and hasn't felt any lingering effects from the injury in several months.
The Ravens' medical staff will have to make a decision gauging his readiness to resume contact drills and clear McClain before he can start. He was limited to individual drills during the offseason.
Yanda had surgery this offseason, and coach John Harbaugh said he's ahead of schedule in his recovery.
"We expect him back by camp to some degree," Harbaugh said in June. "Marshal Yanda has done a great job with the rehab. He's right on schedule, probably ahead of schedule."
Meanwhile, the Ravens placed rookie defensive lineman Kapron Lewis-Moore on the non-football injury list.
He tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the BCS national title game against Alabama.
The Ravens also cut wide receiver Omarius Hines
The Ravens haven't made an announcement on the status of cornerback Lardarius Webb, who has made quick progress from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained last October against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Ravens could opt to ease Webb into practice drills without placing him on the physically unable to perform list.
They didn't make any announcement about other veterans, including defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (sprained knee) and nose guard Terrence Cody (hip surgery).
