Ravens outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil, who led the team with 17.5 sacks in 2014, missed a third straight training camp practice Sunday with tendinitis in his Achilles, and coach John Harbaugh said the team won't take a chance with the star pass rusher.

"Dumervil's got a tendinitis issue that we're going to not even mess with," Harbaugh said. "He'll be fine soon, but it won't be until he's 100 percent that we bring him back to practice.

"I don't think it'll be more than a week, but then again I've said stuff before and it's not right," Harbaugh said.

Dumervil, 31, combined with outside linebacker Terrell Suggs for a league-high 29.5 sacks in 2014, the most by any pair of teammates last season. With outside linebacker Pernell McPhee gone to the Chicago Bears, Dumervil's pass rush abilities will be relied on even more.

Harbaugh also gave an update on Breshad Perriman's knee injury, which was suffered on Thursday when he landed hard after making a leaping catch in his first training camp practice. Harbaugh described the injury as a sprain or bruised tendon, but said "it shouldn't be too long" before the rookie wide receiver returns.

"He's still moving around," Harbaugh said. "He's going through the walkthroughs now."

On Saturday, offensive coordinator Marc Trestman stressed how important time on the field is for Perriman as he gets acclimated to the NFL.

"At the end of the day, he needs to practice as much as he can," Trestman said. "It's not his fault that he's not practicing ... but you can't overestimate the importance of him being on the football field, and hopefully, he'll be back as soon as possible."

Additionally, Harbaugh said cornerback Rashaan Melvin "tweaked his hamstring yesterday, so we held him out today," as did rookie cornerback Tray Walker on Sunday.

Harbaugh said Walker's "didn't pop or anything, but whenever a guy gets a hamstring right now, we're pretty much getting him out of there."

Walker, one of three fourth-round picks in this year's NFL draft for the Ravens, didn't return after suffering the injury. Cornerbacks Cassius Vaughn and Quinton Pointer got extra reps in his and Melvin's absence.
