Grubbs, Ngata, Birk active vs. Steelers

Left guard Ben Grubbs, defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and center Matt Birk are active for the Ravens' clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night at Heinz Field.

Grubbs has not played since the season opener against the Steelers on Sept. 11 after straining ligaments in a toe on his right foot. He was limited in all three practices this past week and had been listed as questionable.

If Grubbs is active, it's anticipated that he will start at left guard for Andre Gurode, who had made five consecutive starts at that position.

Ngata was limited in practice Friday after sitting out sessions on Wednesday and Thursday with what the team described as a thigh injury. The two-time Pro Bowler had been listed as probable.

Birk (neck) had been limited Wednesday and Thursday before fully participating in Friday's session. He was also listed as probable.

Wide receiver/kick returner David Reed (knee) and cornerback Danny Gorrer (thigh) are active. Reed had been listed as questionable, while Gorrer had been probable.

The Ravens deactivated wide receivers Lee Evans (left ankle) and rookie Tandon Doss, linebackers Dannell Ellerbe (hamstring) and Sergio Kindle, rookie running back Anthony Allen (thigh), tight end Kris Wilson and rookie cornerback Chykie Brown (knee).

Rookie wide receiver Torrey Smith will make his sixth consecutive start for Evans.

Rookie linebacker Chavis Williams, who had been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster after the team waived cornerback Bryan McCann Saturday, is active.

Pittsburgh will play without two starting linebackers in LaMarr Woodley (strained left hamstring) and James Farrior (torn calf muscle). Jason Worilds and Larry Foote will fill in for Woodley and Farrior, respectively.

But outside linebacker James Harrison (fractured orbital bone) is active. He was listed as probable after being upgraded from limited to full participation Friday.

Starting wide receiver Hines Ward (ankle sprain) IS also active after being listed as questionable Friday.

In addition to Woodley and Farrior, the Steelers scratched wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (knee/death of mother), center Doug Legursky, nose tackle Chris Hoke, quarterback Dennis Dixon and offensive tackle Jamon Meredith.

Punter Jeremy Kapinos will kick after the team placed Dan Sepulveda (knee) on injured reserve.
