Running back Terrance West (Towson), who was added to the active roster Wednesday, changed his number from No. 42 to No. 27 on Thursday.

West said he'd told the team's equipment managers to alert him when a number in the 20s came open, because 42 "wasn't working for him." He typically wears No. 28, but that belongs to safety Brynden Trawick.

When Asa Jackson was waived off injured reserve with an injury settlement, No. 27 came open. Jackson began wearing it this offseason, but it formerly belonged to running back Ray Rice, who was released during his domestic violence case in 2014.

West, a Baltimore native, said he talks to Rice every week and asked for his blessing before he took it. West said Rice knows his work ethic will make they jersey proud. He previously had a relationship with former Ravens running back Bernard Pierce, too.

Those relationships with Ravens past and present make West believe he's in the right place.

"This is where I belong," West said. "I've been cool with some of the teammates before I even got here. It's just a blessing to be in this locker room. There are great people around here, a great organization. It's a dream come true. This is what I've been waiting for."
