When tight end Daniel Wilcox played for the Ravens, he was one of the most approachable players in the locker room and was regularly in demand for interviews.

"We're thrilled to announce that Daniel will join our Appalachian IMG Sports Network family next season," Appalachian State associate athletics director for broadcast operations David Jackson said in a statement. "His radio experience, football expertise, passion for Appalachian State and genuine care for coaches and student-athletes makes him a natural fit for the role. We think that Mountaineer fans around the world will enjoy Daniel's analysis."

Wilcox played for the Ravens for five seasons through the 2008 season, catching 76 passes for 595 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wilcox caught 66 passes for 1,028 yards and 10 touchdowns in two seasons at Appalachian State as a wide receiver, including 46 receptions for 740 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior when the Mountaineers reached the Division I-AA national semifinals.

"It's great to be a Mountaineer one more time," Wilcox said in a statement. "It will be my pleasure to be around the young men in the program on a regular basis and to watch them grow both on and off the field. Coach [Scott] Satterfield and his staff are doing a great job of building a top-notch FBS program and I am looking forward to having a front-row seat for what I think will be a record-breaking season.

"I am also looking forward to being around and learning from David Jackson and the rest of the Appalachian IMG Sports Network crew. It's an incredible opportunity and I can't wait to get started."

After going undrafted, Wilcox played eight seasons in the NFL. That included stints with the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he earned a Super Bowl ring, prior to joining the Ravens in 2004. He also played for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe.

Wilcox worked as a student assistant for Appalachian State following his NFL career, coaching the wide receivers, blogging for the sports information department and doing a weekly video segment for the school's sports network. Since graduating from Appalachian State, Wilcox has worked as a personal trainer in Atlanta, worked as a volunteer high school footbal coach and owns an interior design renovation company.

"We are excited to welcome Daniel Wilcox back to a prominent role with Appalachian State's football program," Appalachian State director of athletics Doug Gillin said in a statement. "As a Mountaineer, Daniel understands our core values and the thousands of Black and Gold faithful that tune into Appalachian IMG Sports Network broadcasts across the globe will be entertained and informed by the insight that he brings as a former student-athlete and Super Bowl champion."
