Former Raven Ralph Staten charged with DUI after high-speed chase

Former Ravens safety Ralph Staten was arrested Wednesday in George County, Miss., and charged with driving under the influence following a high-speed chase, according to a sheriff's department press release.

Staten was also charged with fleeing, driving with a suspended license, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remains in the George County Regional jail and is also facing a federal warrant for a probation violation.

Staten is a 1997 seventh-round draft pick from Alabama who played two seasons for the Ravens. He intercepted five passes in the 25 games he played for the Ravens.

He has previous charges of possession of precursor chemicals with intent to distribute in Mobile, Ala., and a driving under the influence charge in 1998 while playing for the Ravens.

According to the press release, Staten led police on a high-speed chase after they spotted him driving erratically. At one point, Staten allegedly jumped from the vehicle and ran before being caught and arrested by police.

He also had a Taser in his vehicle.

Staten is a "person of interest" in connection to the disappearance of Donovan Cowart, 26, who has been missing since Jan. 23.

"Staten is being questioned in connection with the disappearance of Mr. Cowart, and at this point that is all that I can say," Sgt. Jason Pharez said in a statement.
