The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed second-round offensive tackle Donovan Smith to a four-year, $6.068 million contract.
The deal for the Owings Mills graduate includes a $2.67 million signing bonus.
Drafted 34th overall, the former all-state selection and Army All-American was a three-year starter for the Nittany Lions.
The 6-foot-6, 328-pound Smith was an All-Big Ten Conference honorable mention selection.
Smith met with Ravens offensive line coach Juan Castillo at the NFL scouting combine, and attended their local prospect day prior to the draft. He visited the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers.
The NFL advisory committee recommended that Smith return to school because he wasn't projected by them within the first two rounds.
However, NFL teams saw it differently and Smith was drafted by Tampa Bay after being invited to attend the NFL draft in Chicago.
Smith is the highest offensive tackle selected by Tampa Bay since they drafted Jeremy Trueblood in the second round in 2006 out of Boston College.
Following Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson (River Hill), Smith was the second-highest local draft pick this year.
Smith played in the Senior Bowl all-star game, impressing scouts with his aggressiveness and athleticism. He was a preseason Outland Trophy candidate who wasn't named All-Big Ten Conference last season.
At the NFL scouting combine, Smith ran the 40-yard dash in 5.27 seconds, bench pressed 225 pounds 26 times and had a 32-inch vertical leap. Smith has 35 5/8 arms and 10 3/8 inch hands.
