Cleveland Browns rookie running back Terrance West broke away from the Ravens' defense in the second quarter, displaying quick moves and balance to remain inbounds.
The 36-yard run was upheld after an instant-replay challenge that determined there wasn't conclusive evidence to overturn the play. It marked the longest run of the game for the former Towson star and Northwestern graduate.
Although the Browns lost, 20-10, Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, West had a respectable game against his hometown team as he rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry and also caught two passes for 12 yards.
"I was a Ravens fan for all my life, and I know a lot of the guys on that team," said West, a third-round draft pick whom the Ravens had under consideration to be selected before he was picked by the Browns. "This was the first time I ever played on this field, and it was a great experience."
West scored in the third quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run, breaking into a dance after he reached the end zone.
"It meant a lot to me because it was here in Baltimore," West said. "I just saw the gap, and I hit it. That was called the 'Dum Dum.'"
West was in and out of the starting lineup as a rookie, spliting time with fellow rookie running back Isaiah Crowell. West led the Browns in rushing yards (673) and four touchdowns, followed by Crowell's 607 yards and eight touchdowns.
"My rookie year had a lot of ups and downs," West said. "Now, I know what I need to do to get better. I have to grow up and lead. It's important for me to improve my focus."
