The Cleveland Browns made it official Saturday, promoting rookie quarterback Connor Shaw from the practice squad to the active roster.

Shaw will start against the Ravens on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, playing in his first NFL regular-season game. Browns coach Mike Pettine made the announcement that Shaw would start Friday, but the roster transaction wasn't executed until Saturday.

Shaw is known for his ability to scramble and throw on the run. He was 27-5 as a starter at South Carolina, but is somewhat undersized at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds.

The Browns promoted former Ravens defensive tackle Jamie Meder from the practice squad to the active roster.

On Friday, the Browns cut linebacker Eric Martin and former Ravens tight end Ryan Taylor to create roster sports for Shaw and Meder.

Meder was cut by the Ravens during training camp and spent the first 10 weeks of the season on the Ravens' practice squad and the past six weeks on the Browns' practice squad.
