Ravens rookie defensive lineman Brent Urban has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, coach John Harbaugh said Thursday.
"We got bad news on Brent Urban," Harbaugh said.
Urban will undergo surgery to repair the damage for the season-ending injury sustained while being blocked to the ground by offensive tackle Jah Reid on Wednesday.
"It was a clean tear, which is positive," Harbaugh said. "He's been through this before. It was a one-on-one block and it was just a situation where one guy was blocking the other and the knee just buckled on him."
The injury was immediately regarded as serious Wednesday when Urban knocked over during a block by offensive tackle Jah Reid.
A fourth-round draft pick from Virginia, Urban had been impressive during training camp and was expected to be part of the Ravens' defensive line rotation. The 6-foot-6, 298-pound lineman tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee as a redshirt freshman in college. He underwent ankle surgery in February after aggravating a pre-existing injury during the Senior Bowl all-star game.
Meanwhile, defensive end Timmy Jernigan and veteran cornerback Lardarius Webb remained sidelined Thursday morning with injuries.
Jernigan is dealing with back spasms.
Jernigan appeared to hurt his back. Webb has been dealing with a lower back injury, including spasms, since Friday. Tests revealed no structural damage, according to sources.
Several veteran players had the day off Thursday, including wide receiver Jacoby Jones, nose tackle Haloti Ngata, outside linebacker Terrell Suggs and running back Justin Forsett.
Middle linebacker Daryl Smith hasn't practiced since injuring his groin Monday night.
Offensive guard Will Rackley (concussion) has been out since last week. Nose tackle Terrence Cody is on the physically unable to perform list and is out indefinitely after undergoing offseason hip surgery.
Rookie wide receiver Jeremy Butler has a groin injury. He's expected to miss at least a few days.
Inside linebacker Albert McClellan returned to practice after missing one day with a minor heel injury.
