On one of his first snaps upon returning to practice this week, Ravens defensive end Brent Urban lost his feet and fell to the ground, prompting some playful ribbing from his teammates. The rest of the week went much smoother for Urban, who is trying to return from a torn left biceps injury sustained in training camp.
"It went well, considering all the time I've been out," Urban said. "It was good to get back, kind of get in the swing of things, get my timing down. I'm happy with my improvement over the week."
In order for Urban to be available for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Ravens would have to activate him to the 53-man roster by 4 p.m. Saturday. Ravens coach John Harbaugh wouldn't comment on the team's plans, but did say that the 2014 fourth-round draft pick is making progress.
"Brent looked good. He's coming along really well," Harbaugh said. "We actually put the young guys in pads for some reps after practice and we took a padded day even though we didn't put the team in pads, to get him and Carl [Davis] and some of the young linemen some work. It was really valuable and he looked good doing it. I just wanted to see him get in there and get some contact the first week back and he did well."
Harbaugh acknowledged earlier in the week that the Ravens would take it slow with Urban, who missed all of his rookie season after injuring his knee during training camp. Urban might have to wait at least another week before making his NFL debut, but things are headed in the right direction.
"They kind of want me to get my feet under me first and kind of go from there," Urban said. "I don't know about this week, but definitely fairly soon."
