Strong safety Bernard Pollard is doubtful for Sunday's game against the New York Giants due to a painful rib injury that's expected to sideline him for the second consecutive week.
Pollard hasn't practiced all week after aggravating a rib injury against the Washington Redskins that was initially suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles in the second game of the season.
Earlier this week, Pollard acknowledged that doctors advised him not to play during the Ravens' 34-17 loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday.
The Ravens officially ruled out inside linebacker Jameel McClain because of a spinal cord contusion that's expected to eventually send him to injured reserve, which would open up a roster spot for middle linebacker Ray Lewis (right triceps surgery) to be activated from the injured reserve-designated to return list as soon as Saturday.
The Ravens haven't said much about Lewis' status, but there are signs pointing toward his potential return for this game.
"Yes, he is coming along," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said today.
Meanwhile, offensive guard Marshal Yanda and wide receiver Torrey Smith practiced for the second day in a row on a limited basis. Yanda has a sprained right ankle and Smith is recovering from a concussion.
Both are questionable, but expected to play Sunday. Yanda is no longer limping as badly as he was at the start of the week.
Smith hasn't shown lingering effects from the concussion, but Harbaugh indicated that the former University of Maryland standout and rookie backup running back Bernard Pierce both still have to pass baseline neurological tests to be allowed to play. Pierce is questionable and didn't practice Friday, but was dressed out for practice. His concussion is believed to be more serious than Smith's.
Starting inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (sprained right ankle) has missed the past three games since getting hurt against the San Diego Chargers. He's questionable and characterized his status as game-time decision, but indicated there's a much better chance he plays this week than last week when his ankle failed to respond during warm-ups.
"It's a game-time decision, but I'm hopeful, I've got faith that I'll be healed enough to play and help out the team," Ellerbe said. "I've been able to test it out a little bit more, but I still had to be smart with it. The extra time, it definitely will help. I feel I made a great number of strides. I'm not 100 percent yet, but hopefully I'll be able to go."

When asked about the possibility that both he and Lewis could return Sunday, Ellerbe replied: "That would be great, but I can only worry about how healthy I'm going to be. It would be great to have ray out there."
Fullback Vonta Leach (ankle) returned to practice Friday on a limited basis and is set to start Sunday, but is listed as questionable. Leach has said that he'll definitely play Sunday.
Outside linebacker Albert McClellan (hamstring, shoulder) is questionable, but expected to play Sunday.
The following players are listed as probable and expected to play Sunday: tight end Ed Dickson (hyperextended knee), outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (torn right biceps), free safety Ed Reed (torn shoulder labrum), defensive end Arthur Jones (bruised shoulder), cornerback Jimmy Smith (sports hernia surgery), wide receivers Deonte Thompson and Laquan Williams (thighs) and safety James Ihedigbo (neck).
Ihedigbo is preparing to start his second game in place of Pollard.
