After resolving grievance with Ray Rice, Ravens say 'it's time to turn the page'

One day after reaching a settlement with Ray Rice in his wrongful termination grievance, the Ravens issued a statement saying they've concluded their business with the three-time Pro Bowl running back.

“The Ravens agreed to resolve the grievance with Ray Rice," team president Dick Cass said in the statement. "It’s time to turn the page, and we’re moving forward. We will continue to focus on being the best partner we can be with our community, and that includes our work with the House of Ruth and One Love Foundation on the issue of intimate partner abuse. We wish Janay and Ray Rice the best.”

Rice and the Ravens were scheduled to have a grievance hearing Thursday and Friday in the Baltimore area before NFL system arbitrator Shyam Das, but sources said Thursday morning that the two sides had reached a financial compromise. Details haven't been disclosed, but one source described the settlement as "fair."

Rice was seeking $3.529 million in back pay after his $35 million contract was terminated in September following a graphic video surfacing of him punching his then-fiancee, Janay -- now his wife -- in an Atlantic City, N.J., casino elevator. The Ravens were holding $1.44 million against the salary cap since the grievance was filed in October.

Rice is a free agent who hasn't been invited to work out or visit an NFL team since former federal judge Barbara S. Jones was reinstated him in November from an indefinite suspension levied by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who originally suspended Rice for two games.
