College Roundup: Navy men fall to College of Charleston, 70-64

NAVY MEN'S BASKETBALL: Grant Riller scored 26 points to lead College of Charleston to a 70-64 victory over visiting Navy on Thursday night.

George Kiernan scored 15 points to lead Navy while Shawn Anderson added 14. Tom Lacey finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Mids (3-5), who will play at Furman on Saturday at 4 p.m.

NAVY INDOOR TRACK: Senior distance runner Mary Cate Scully shined with a personal-best and ECAC-qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run as the Navy women's track and field team went 7-0 at the Navy Lid Lifter Thursday night at the Wesley A. Brown Field House.

Scully opened up the running events with a personal-best and ECAC-qualifying time of 17:21.15 in the 5,000-meter run. The Fairfax Station, Virginia, native shaved off a full 11 seconds off her previous best mark to place first in the event.

As Scully impressed on the track in the first track event, junior Charlene Kearns and sophomore Rosemary Brinegar recorded ECAC-qualifying pole vault marks in the first field event. Kearns and Brinegar both crossed over the 11ft-11.75in (3.65m) mark, but Kearns was able to leap over the pole in her first try to garner first-place. Brinegar improved her freshman mark by a full 10 inches.

MILITARY BOWL: The 2016 Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, benefiting the USO, will celebrate the nonprofit's 75th anniversary. Founded in 1941, the military support organization serves as a force behind the forces – connecting service members to family, home and country throughout their service to the nation. The USO operates more than 180 locations worldwide and its staff and 30,000 volunteers offer daily acts of kindness, caring, encouragement and support to America's men and women in uniform and their families.

This year's Military Bowl, matching teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the American Athletic Conference and honoring the USO's commitment to service members everywhere, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN and features a special Military Bowl logo commemorating the USO's milestone year.

Tickets for the Military Bowl are on sale now. Regular tickets are priced at $25, $60, $70 and $80, with a $150 food and beverage all-inclusive Captain's BBQ ticket also available. Navy defeated Pittsburgh, 44-28, as the 2015 Military Bowl was played before a capacity crowd of 36,352, the second-largest attendance in the game's history.
