Sept. 10: George Bentz Jr. of DrizzleBar Charters will discuss perch fishing techniques at a meeting of the Pasadena Sportfishing Group at 7:30 p.m. at Earleigh Heights VFC, 161 Ritchie Highway (Route 2), Severna Park. PSG White Perch Open

Hunter safety course

Sept. 19-29: Baltimore County Game & Fish Protective Association will conduct hunter safety courses Sept. 19, 20, 26 and 27 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on club grounds at 3400 Northwind Road in Carney with a field day Sept. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Heather L. Hurd 5K Spooktacular

Oct. 27: The 10th Annual Heather L. Hurd 5K Spooktacular will take place at Harford Community College. On-site registration will be in the Susquehanna Center Auxiliary Gymnasium from 8 to 8:45 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m. A Halloween-themed activities area, for children ages 10 and younger accompanied by an adult, will be open 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. It will feature bounce houses, crafts, face painting, a costume contest, pumpkin coloring and more. Heather L. Hurd, a Harford County native, was killed in 2008 by a distracted tractor-trailer driver who was texting. Her parents established the race in 2009 to raise money for Remembrance Book Scholarships for deserving HCC students and to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. Summer flounder season
