Despite Joe Nathan's struggles, Tigers' patience with closer has paid off

Joe Nathan has two blown saves and a 2.95 ERA since July 23.

That's when the Detroit Tigers traded Corey Knebel, the 39th overall pick in the 2013 draft, and fellow pitcher Jake Thompson, a second-round pick in 2012, to the Texas Rangers for closer Joakim Soria.

Since the Soria trade, Nathan went 1-1 with 15 saves and gave up 20 hits and 13 walks in 21 1/3 innings with 15 strikeouts.
