Blue Jays designate Nolan Reimold for assignment

Outfielder Nolan Reimold, whom the Toronto Blue Jays claimed off waivers from the Orioles in July, was designated for assignment Tuesday, the Blue Jays announced.

Reimold, 30, had two homers and nine RBIs while batting .212 with a .283 on-base percentage in 60 plate appearances for the Blue Jays. A second-round pick by the Orioles in 2005, Reimold has been attempting to come back from neck surgeries the past two seasons.

He was claimed by the Blue Jays off waivers July 6 and started off hot, with four hits in 12 at-bats before going on the 15-day disabled list with a calf strain. He returned in the minimum amount of time and, within days, hit two homers on July 31.

But he batted just .143 in 16 August games, was losing playing time and had just two hits in his past 20 at-bats. He also made a costly defensive gaffe in a Blue Jays’ loss over the weekend.

The Blue Jays have 10 days to trade, release or ask waivers on Reimold, who still doesn’t appear to be a great fit for the Orioles but continues to have avid supporters within the organization.
