Orioles minor league spotlight for August 9

Triple-A Norfolk

1B Christian Walker had three home runs in his last 10 games entering Saturday, giving him 24 homers and 90 RBIs on the season. Both lead all Orioles minor leaguers. Walker is hitting .308 with 10 extra-base hits and 13 RBIs for the Tides. … OF Quintin Berry saw a 28-game road on-base streak end Friday night in a 5-3 win over Gwinnett. Berry is batting .295 with a .390 OBP and 22 stolen bases in 28 chances. His on-base percentage is third among qualifying International League players. … RHP Josh Stinson has wins in each of his last four appearances, including Friday's victory over Gwinnett.

The Baysox entered Saturday's game 6.5 games behind Akron for the final playoff spot in the Eastern League's Western Division. … RHP Eddie Gamboa returned from a 50-game drug suspension Thursday to make his first start of the season for Bowie; he allowed four earned runs in 41/3 innings. Gamboa, who began throwing a knuckleball last year, has appeared in Bowie for six straight seasons. … IF Niuman Romero entered Saturday's game with hits in six of seven August games, including three in Thursday's win over Portland. Romero, who has played for the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox, is batting .329 with five home runs and 23 doubles in 111 games for the Baysox.

RHP Dylan Bundy's first home rehab start for Frederick was also his best. On his way back from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, he threw 41/3 shutout innings Tuesday against Carolina. Bundy allowed five hits, struck out seven and walked none. … RHP Mark Blackmar is eighth in the Carolina League with a 3.34 ERA in 22 games. Since joining the rotation in May, Blackmar is 5-0 with a 2.87 ERA. He has a 2.47 ERA in his last 10 starts. … SS Adrian Marin hit his fourth home run of the season Friday in an 8-1 loss to Wilimington. Marin entered Saturday's game hitting .357 with seven RBIs in August.

He has hits in nine of his last 10 games, and is batting .403 with 13 RBIs since the All-Star break. … C Chance Sisco is second in the South Atlantic League with a .340 batting average and has seven hits in seven August games through Friday. 3B Drew Dosch, the Orioles minor league Player of the Month for July, is fourth in the South Atlantic League with a .327 average.

Three Ironbirds players were announced for the New York-Penn League All-Star Game, which will be held Aug. 19 in Brooklyn, N.Y.: RHP David Hess, OF Jay Gonzalez and 3B Austin Anderson. Hess, a 2014 fifth-round draft pick, is 2-1 with a 1.21 ERA in seven appearances (four starts) for the Ironbirds. Gonzalez, a 10th-round pick this year, is batting .268 with seven RBIs in 41 games. Anderson, a ninth-round pick, leads all regulars with a .330 average in 31 games; he also has 10 RBIs. … Aberdeen entered Saturday's game 19-34 and could be eliminated from playoff contention this week.
