Orioles sign Randy Wolf to minor league deal, other Triple-A moves

NEW YORK -- The Orioles have signed 37-year-old left-hander Randy Wolf to a minor league contract and have sent him to Triple-A Norfolk, where he likely will work in the rotation.

Wolf pitched five games and made two starts for the Orioles in 2012 before tearing a ligament in his elbow. He sat out all of last season with his second Tommy John surgery, but he made a comeback this year, going 1-3 with a 5.26 ERA in six games (four starts) with the Miami Marlins.

He was designated for assignment Monday by the Marlins and granted free agency Wednesday.

Wolf, who was also with the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks organizations earlier this year, is 133-120 with a 4.21 ERA in a 15-season career.

In other Orioles minor league moves, the organization took right-hander Edgmer Escalona off the 60-day disabled list and outrighted him to Norfolk. And right-hander Josh Stinson accepted his assignment to Norfolk.
