With day off Monday, Orioles juggle starting rotation for upcoming week

HOUSTON -- The Orioles will adjust their starting rotation following Monday’s day off, pushing right-hander Bud Norris back one day.

Norris was initially scheduled to pitch Tuesday’s series opener in Texas, but right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez will start that game on regular rest. Norris will start Wednesday, and right-hander Miguel Gonzalez on Thursday.

Moving Norris back a day allows him to avoid pitching against the Oakland Athletics this weekend at Camden Yards. Norris is 0-2 with a 9.35 ERA in four career starts against Oakland.

Against the Athletics, left-hander Wei-Yin Chen is scheduled to start Friday in the series opener, so right-hander Chris Tillman will get two extra days of rest.

“I wanted to give him a couple of work days and see if we can build on [Saturday],” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said of Tillman, who allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings Saturday. He’s still not where he’s capable of being, but he’s getting closer.
