Orioles recall left-hander Zach Britton from Triple-A Norfolk

CLEVELAND – The Orioles recalled left-hander Zach Britton from Triple-A Norfolk before Monday’s game to add another bullpen arm.

Britton, who was originally slated to  start in today’s Tides game, arrived in Cleveland this morning. He will be available out of the pen today.

Britton was 2-3 with a 4.76 in six starts for the Orioles this season. He was 6-5 with a 4.27 ERA in 19 starts at Norfolk. He’s coming off back-to-back starts of seven innings and allowing just one earned run.

The 25-year-old Britton was called up late last season to work out of the pen, so he’s used to pitching in relief at the major league level.

“I’ve done it before,” Britton said. “Last year I got a little taste of what I’ve got to do down in the bullpen. I’m not really worried about getting ready or trying to get loose or trying to figure it out. I think I’ll be fine.”

Showers have moved through Cleveland this afternoon, which has canceled batting practice. The Orioles will hit in the indoor cages here at Progressive Field instead. But it looks like we still start on time at 4:05 p.m.

Here are today’s starting lineups:
