Bud Norris was fit to be pied after his first start with the Orioles

It’s become a tradition at the end of most Orioles wins: the player with the best performance will usually receive a shaving cream pie to the face courtesy of center fielder Adam Jones during a MASN on-field interview.

After the Orioles’ 6-3 win over Houston on Thursday, the newest Oriole received a welcome of his own.

Jones and second baseman Alexi Casilla pied Bud Norris simultaneously following the right-hander’s two-run, six-inning, eight-strikeout performance against his former team.

“I hadn’t had one before,” Norris said. “It was the first one of my career. You see it all the time on the highlight reel, and I had a feeling it might come. I’m pretty excited to take it, it was exhilarating.”

Manager Buck Showalter even commented on his newest player’s initiation into the team. If Norris pitches like he did Thursday, there could be plenty more in the future.

“I just saw him come up,” Showalter said. “He seemed to be wearing it well, so to speak. You didn’t expect anything less, did you? Mine’s coming, mine’s coming. There’s a reason why they don’t ask me to do anything after the game. I hope it’s late in October.”
