Baltimore Sun’s BEST party in 2 weeks

Orioles and Blue Jays in holding pattern as rain falls at Camden Yards

It’s raining at Camden Yards and the tarp is on the infield, but the Orioles likely won’t make a decision on whether they can start playing tonight’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays until as late as 30 minute before the 7:05 start time.

If tonight’s game is postponed, they won’t play a doubleheader Saturday because FOX wouldn’t allow the Orioles to play a doubleheader to interfere with their national night baseball broadcasts. Playing a doubleheader Sunday has its challenges also because it’s the final game before the All-Star break and it would interfere with the travel plans of players on both teams.

In other words, they will try their best to get tonight’s game in.

Representatives from both teams will gather around 5 p.m. to discuss the forecast. They will also look at off days the teams share as well as travel schedules to see how a game could be made up if not this weekend. The team's only remaining series in Baltimore is the last week of the season.

A decision on a delay must be made 30 minutes before the game at the latest in order to allow both starting pitchers time to warm up.
