Rain coming down at Camden Yards, but Orioles and Angels will likely wait it out

[UPDATE: 7:15 p.m.] The Orioles' game against the Angels started on time as scheduled, but heavy storms were approaching the area at first pitch.

It is currently raining here at Camden Yards and the Orioles grounds crew still has the tarp on the field. With more storms expected throughout the night, expect the O's to wait it out before making a call on tonight's 7:05 game against the Angels.

Strong bands of storms battered the city throughout the afternoon, and the forecast is calling for more thunderstorms later tonight.

Officials from major league baseball and both teams are scheduled to convene around 5:30 to evaluate the weather situation. The Orioles likely won't make any kind of announcement regarding a delay or postponement until about 6:30 because that's when Orioles starter Freddy Garcia would begin warming up for the game.

It's typical for the Orioles to try their best to avoid a postponement. Before deciding to postpone a game, they will typically look at both teams' schedules, travel plans and common off days to evaulate the feasibility of making up the game.

Since this is the Angels' first and only trip to Baltimore this season, they would likely try to make up the game as part of a doubleheader Tuesday because Wednesday's game is an afternoon game and the Angels are making the cross-country flight back to California following the game. The Angels do have an off day Thursday before hosting the Yankees on Friday, but massive readjusting of travel plans are unlikely unless it's absolutely necessary.

Stay tuned for updates on the game as the day progresses.
