Right-hander Jake Arrieta had his worst outing of the season for Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, allowing eight runs – all earned – on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings against Buffalo.
Arrieta – who was removed after 99 pitches, 60 of them strikes -- also allowed a pair of home runs in the outing.
Arrieta entered the afternoon with a 2.45 ERA in five appearances -- four starts -- in Triple-A. He has been plagued with shoulder discomfort that forced him to skip a start last month.
He went 18 days between appearances last month when the Orioles called him up as an extra relief arm but didn't use him before he was optioned back down to Norfolk.
Arrieta, who won the Orioles' open starting rotation spot this spring, went 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA in four major league starts before he was optioned to Norfolk.
