Giants' Wilson to test side strain; Peavy completes throwing session

GIANTS: Manager Bruce Bochy said RHP Brian Wilson has been exercising after doctors confirmed that the closer had nothing more than a mild strain on his left side. Wilson will attempt to play catch Wednesday, although not off the mound.

WHITE SOX: RHP Jake Peavy had a light throwing session Tuesday morning that left him more optimistic than two days ago when his rotator cuff tendinitis was diagnosed. Peavy threw on a back field for 5 or 6 minutes at 30 to 40 feet and reported no significant discomfort.

PHILLIES: Luis Castillo reported to camp four days after the 2B was released by the Mets. The 35-year-old Castillo signed a minor league deal Monday with the Phillies and could earn regular playing time with Chase Utley out because of a right knee injury.

RAYS: CF B.J. Upton said he was glad to see manager Joe Maddon and his teammates come to his defense Sunday when a fan yelled a racial slur from the stands during the game in Port Charlotte, Fla., against the Orioles. "It's good to see guys have your back like that. Joe wasn't the only one. There were a number of guys up there," Upton said.

METS: CF Angel Pagan left Tuesday's game in the second inning with lower back tightness. Pagan said his back stiffened on the two-hour-plus bus ride to Lakeland, Fla.

ANGELS: Kendrys Morales' comeback from a fractured left ankle has entered an indefinite holding pattern after the slugger left Arizona to meet with a Los Angeles foot specialist.
