Another day in paradise

PHILLIES: Second baseman Chase Utley (patellar tendinitis) missed another spring training game after getting a cortisone shot in his right knee. The 32-year-old Utley got the shot Friday. He has not appeared in any of the Phillies' eight exhibition games. … Possible starting right fielder Domonic Brown suffered a fractured right hand Saturday and will be out three to six weeks.

MARINERS: Catcher Miguel Olivo strained his groin while running home in an exhibition game. The Mariners said Olivo hurt himself on the left side and will have an MRI exam. Olivo was injured while scoring a run against the Indians.

ORIOLES: Left-hander Brian Matusz returned to the mound one day after getting a wart removed from his left middle finger. He expects to make his next start. Matusz had the procedure done in Philadelphia on Friday, a day after pitching two scoreless innings in a loss to the Twins.

METS: Mike Piazza said he's ready to explore opportunities for potential ownership of a major league team, but he didn't specify any clubs in particular. Obviously, the biggest name on the block right now is the Mets, and Piazza danced around the topic of buying a piece of his former team when asked directly about it.

YANKEES: For the third straight season, CC Sabathia got lit up in his second spring start, when he retired just seven of 15 batters in the Yankees' 10-8 loss to the Nationals at Steinbrenner Field. "We'll re-evaluate after today," Girardi joked of the left-hander's spot in the rotation suddenly being in peril. Sabathia allowed five runs and six hits in 22/3 innings.
