Edsall, MacPhail will attend Babe's Birthday Bash

New Maryland football coach Randy Edsall and Orioles president Andy MacPhail will attend the the annual Babe's Birthday Bash on Feb. 11.

The event, which will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards, will celebrate the 116th anniversary of Ruth's birth in Baltimore on Feb. 6, 1895.

Edsall was hired Jan. 3 as the 34th head football coach in Maryland history. The 2010 Big East Coach of the Year, he guided Connecticut to an 8-5 record and its first Bowl Championship Series berth. Over 12 seasons with the Huskies, Edsall compiled a 74-70 record and took his team to five bowl appearances and a share of two Big East titles.

MacPhail joined the Orioles in 2007 as the club's president of baseball operations. Before joining the Orioles, he was the president and CEO of the Chicago Cubs from 1994 to 2006. MacPhail also has two World Series championships on his resume as the general manager of the Minnesota Twins (1987 and 1991). His ties to the Orioles date to 1958 when he his father, Hall of Fame executive Lee MacPhail, ran the Orioles from 1958 to 1965.

During the Bash, the Babe Ruth Museum will present its 2011 Community Service Award to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. Celebrating its 10th year in 2011, the foundation uses baseball- and softball-themed programs to help build character and teach life lessons to disadvantaged youth residing in America's most distressed communities.

Tickets to the event are $45 each for members of the Babe Ruth Museum, $55 apiece for the general public when purchased in advance and $60 each at-the-door on the night of the event. Ten or more tickets purchased together are discounted at $40 each. The evening will include admission to Sports Legends Museum's galleries; unlimited food and beverages; a silent auction; appearances by local professional and amateur athletes and free parking at Camden Yards.
