What they're saying about the Orioles

Here's a look at what other media are saying about the Orioles:

• With David Eckstein being placed on the disabled list this week, the Padres are in need of another infielder. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Wednesday that Orioles third baseman Miguel Tejada has moved to the top of the Padres' list of potential replacements.

Tejada appeared to be headed to the Phillies last weekend, but that deal collapsed just before Eckstein was injured. The Padres have contacted the Orioles about the availability of the 35-year-old slugging infielder, although the Orioles are apparently seeking a high price for the shortstop-third baseman, whom the Padres believe could also play some outfield down the stretch if Eckstein is healthy.

• The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Thursday that the Tampa Bay Rays could be interested in Orioles designated hitter Luke Scott.

"The Rays are looking at other options as well, with Baltimore's Luke Scott (who made himself more appealing by going 6-for-12 with two homers in the three games), Chicago's Derrek Lee, Milwaukee's Corey Hart and Toronto's Jose Bautista (though it might require a third team) among the possibilities."

• AOL Fanhouse's Jeff Fletcher looks at a few rumored moves involving the Orioles leading up to the trade deadline.

The Giants, Angels and Rangers are among the teams that have shown interest in the Orioles' Ty Wigginton. Baltimore has a handful of players available -- Wigginton, Kevin Millwood, Jeremy Guthrie, Miguel Tejada -- but so far clubs have been offering very little in return.

Power rankings

• AOL Fanhouse ranks the Orioles as baseball's No. 26 team.

Looking for some good news about the Orioles season? Thanks to the fact that the Orioles have several veterans that might fit on contending teams, scouts are flocking to Camden Yards. Hopefully the players they are there to watch aren't spooked by actually seeing bodies interrupting the blocks of empty seats that provide the usual backdrop.

• The Orioles are 27th on CBSSports.com' s power rankings.

Andy MacPhail has to start carpeing the damn diem. He failed to trade Ty Wigginton before the utilityman inevitably came down to earth (.201/.280/.264 since June 1) and now the Buck Showalter watch has extended into its third week. True, nobody cares, but it'd be nice to see some decisive action for a change ... To draw attention to some kind of MLB/MLBPA/White House/International Olympic Committee/Burger King/Oprah anti-childhood- obesity program, Michelle Obama will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the O's game tonight. Vegas has set the over/under on "number of tweets that suggest having her replace Brian Matusz in the rotation" at 75,000. Bet the over."

• The O's check in at No. 30 on FoxSports.com's rankings.

Baltimore was hitting .228 with runners in scoring position after being swept by Toronto over the weekend. "We're beating a dead horse here," manager Juan Samuel said.

• ESPN.com also ranks the Orioles last in the majors.

The Orioles' offense went 5-for-33 with runners in scoring position in a three-game sweep at the hands of the Jays.
