Two pitchers from The Baltimore Sun's 2007 All-Metro first team were selected on the second day of the MLB first-year player draft.
The New York Mets picked University of Maryland left-handed pitcher Adam Kolarek (Catonsville), who was 1-4 with a 6.06 ERA and one save in 13 games this season, in the 11th round (332nd overall). He also batted .214 with two home runs and seven RBIs during his junior year for the Terps.
Kolarek, 21, also received All-Metro first-team honors in 2006.
Georgia Tech right-handed pitcher Kevin Jacob (Parkville) was selected in the 18th round (565th overall) by the New York Yankees. Despite missing most of the season due to shoulder tendinitis, the 21-year-old recorded a 5.23 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings for the Yellow Jackets in 2010.
Two other players with local ties were chosen Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers took Johns Hopkins left-handed pitcher Andrew Pevsner in the 16th round (502nd overall), while the Oakland Athletics drafted Georgia Southern left-hander Jacob Brown (North Harford) in the 26th round (785th overall).
