Orioles officially recall Tillman to start today's game

In a move that was expected, but had to be made official, the Orioles announced this morning they have recalled Chris Tillman from Triple-A Norfolk to start this afternoon's game against the Blue Jays.

To make room for Tillman, the Orioles optioned right-handed reliever Cla Meredith to Norfolk after Friday night's 5-0 loss to Toronto. Meredith had given up game-winning hits in last two appearances. He was 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 21 appearances and had allowed at least one base runner in eight straight outings.

The right-handed Tillman was 5-4 with a 3.12 ERA in 10 starts for the Tides. On April 28, Tillman pitched a no-hitter against Gwinnett.

In 2009, Tillman started 12 games for Baltimore, going 2-5 with a 5.40 ERA.

Tillman will face former University of Maryland pitcher Brett Cecil in today's 1:07 p.m. game.
