How it happened: Orioles starter Brad Bergesen, who was demoted to Triple-A Norfolk after the last time he faced Seattle, atoned for that poor performance in a big way. The right-hander went a season-best 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks.

The Orioles' offense showed a spark of life, backing Bergesen by scoring five runs in the first six innings of the game. Miguel Tejada drove in two with a third-inning double, Luke Scott went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, and Adam Jones had three hits and an RBI.

Closer Alfredo Simon came on in the ninth and recorded his fourth save in four chances this season.

He said it:"I hope Bergesen keeps pitching like that because I thought the last time he pitched was the best I've seen him, but I have to take it back. Tonight was better. He had better sink, excellent poise, and he pitched a heck of a game. Much needed, for him and for us. He really was in command of the game."
