Ty Wigginton and Garrett Atkins homered on Saturday, but the New York Yankees roughed up Jeremy Guthrie in the early innings and scored a 5-3 victory at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Wigginton hit a two-run shot off Yankees starter Javier Vazquez for his second homer of the spring and Atkins hit his first off Alfredo Aceves, but that was not enough to keep the Orioles from losing for the eighth time in 10 Grapefruit League games.

The Yankees batted around in the first inning to score three runs on five hits off Guthrie, who settled down enough to work through 3 1/3 innings. He threw 63 pitches, 41 of them for strikes, and gave up a total of four runs on eight hits.

"It wasn't great," Guthrie said. "I gave up a lot of hits, got behind some hitters and walked that leadoff guy. Not a great performance. It was nice to go out there and put up a zero in the third and get that leadoff guy in the fourth, but there's still a lot of work to be done."

The Orioles return to Ed Smith Stadium on Sunday to host the Philadelphia Phillies. The O's also will play a nine-inning "B" game on Sunday morning against Pittsburgh at Pirate City in Bradenton, Fla.
