What to watch
1. Still skidding. The Orioles will be looking to end their fifth losing streak of at least five games as they open a series against the Yankees, owners of the second-best record in baseball. The Orioles had five such slides all of last season, their first under .500 since 2011. Over the past five games, the offense deserves most of the blame having been held to six total runs and a .197 batting average. The pitching staff has 5.02 ERA during the skid.
2. Somethingās gotta give. Orioles starter Andrew Cashner and Yankees starter Sonny Gray both come in with ERAs above 5.00 and each comes in having allowed five runs in his most recent start. Gray has had the worse season, posting a 6.58 ERA in eight starts since allowing four runs in 10 innings over his first two games. Cashnerās dud Saturday ended his streak of four straight starts allowing three runs or fewer.
3. Seeking a spark. During the Oriolesā past five games, Jonathan Schoop has endured some of the deepest struggles, going 3-for-20 with seven strikeouts and no walks. His batting average has dipped from .242 to .230 in that time. Will he break out against the Yankees?
