Rickard up, Scott down
The Orioles called up outfielder Joey Rickard and optioned left-hander Tanner Scott to Triple-A Norfolk before Saturday's game.
Rickard, 26, used a scorching bat with the Tides to get back to the majors. He batted .345/.456/.473 with six extra-base hits and 10 RBIs in his first 16 games with Norfolk this season.
Scott, 23, has made three relief appearances with the Orioles this season, posting a 5.79 ERA in 4 2/3 innings.
Rickard immediately was inserted in the Orioles lineup while Chris Davis was removed with a left-hander on the mound.
What to watch
1. Make it two. The Orioles have a chance to win consecutive games for just the second time this season, and first time since April 5-6 at Yankee Stadium. The Orioles had lost five straight and 11 of 12 before Friday's win.
2. Bounce back. Andrew Cashner had a 1.89 ERA in three starts before he allowed four runs in six innings his last time out. See if he can get back on a roll against the Tigers, who he held to three runs in six innings on April 22.
3. Three or fewer. The Orioles offense has busted out the past three days, scoring at least four runs in three straight games for the first time this season. On Friday, they hit three homers. On Saturday, they'll be challenged to keep it going against Francisco Liriano, a lefty who has yet to allow more than three runs in a start this season.
