Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Andrew Cashner (1-4, 4.89 ERA) vs. Royals LHP Eric Skoglund (1-2, 6.84 ERA)

What to watch

1. Can it get worse? The Orioles have now lost a season-high seven games in a row after Tuesday's 15-7 debacle. It's their fourth losing streak of at least five games so far in 2018, and the season is just 35 games old. If the Orioles continue at this clip (.228 winning percentage), they'll go 37-125. That would be just one win off the record for fewest wins in the modern era (36 by the 1916 and 1919 Philadelphia Athletics), and would be the worst winning percentage of the modern era.

2. Pitching pressure. With a doubleheader coming Saturday and Dylan Bundy getting no outs Tuesday, the pressure is on for Andrew Cashner and the starters who follow him to at least pick up some innings. Cashner's performance hasn't been great over his past three starts, during which time he has a 7.98 ERA, but he has pitched into the fifth inning in all but one of his seven starts this season and has pitched at least four frames in every start.

3. An encouraging sign. Yes, the Orioles scored seven runs Tuesday, but six came in the last two innings with the game well in hand for the Royals. There is at least one reason to be encouraged that the offense will break out of its slump — Mark Trumbo. The Orioles batting order is near full strength with Trumbo and Jonathan Schoop, and Trumbo has hit well since being activated. He's batting .310 with four two-hit games in his first seven games back, although he has just two extra-base hits so far.
