Hess recalled, Hart sent to Triple-A Norfolk

A day after he pitched 1 1/3 innings against the Red Sox, left-handed reliever Donnie Hart was sent down to Triple-A Norfolk and right-handed pitcher David Hess was recalled. Hart gave up an unearned run in his Saturday outing, allowing two hits and striking out one.

What to watch

1. Eyes on the mound. The third entry in the four-game series has easily the best pitching matchup with the teams' Opening Day starters looking to continue strong starts to the season. Dylan Bundy has been the Orioles' best starter, but is still seeking his first win despite three straight quality starts to open the year. Chris Sale has allowed just two runs in 17 innings, but has yet to pitch more than six innings in any of his starts.

2. Best start. The Red Sox have now put together the best start in their 118-year history at 12-2, and the Orioles will look to end that Sunday afternoon. The Red Sox have lost just once since their Opening Day defeat and are getting it done in all departments, reminding everyone that this isn't the Yankees' division to lose.

3. For Sale. There was a time when the Orioles had some of the most success against Sale, despite their problems against lefties. Sale had a 5.06 ERA against the Orioles from 2010 to 2014 at the start of his career. The tide has turned, as he's held them to six runs in 35 innings (1.54 ERA) in five starts from 2015 to 2017. But two Orioles still see Sale especially well — Manny Machado (.385 average with one homer in 13 at-bats) and Trey Mancini (.444 average in nine at-bats).
