Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP David Hess (1-0, 4.50 ERA) vs. Red Sox LHP Eduardo Rodríguez (3-1, 4.68 ERA)

What to watch

1. Welcome back. David Hess gets the ball for his second career start eight days after an impressive major league debut. After allowing three runs four batters in against the Rays on May 12, Hess didn’t allow another run over six total innings.

2. Even up. The Orioles have a chance to leave Boston with a split and some road confidence after coming into Friday with 13 straight losses away from Camden Yards. A split with the first-place Red Sox won’t make any real dent in the Orioles’ 16½-game division deficit, but it could have some intangible benefits for the struggling ballclub.

3. Strikeouts. The Orioles have had two games in their past four where they struck out 13 times. Chris Davis has fanned in his past six plate appearances. He’s not in Sunday’s lineup.
