Orioles call up Wynns

After sending rookie catcher Chance Sisco to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night, the Orioles replaced him on the roster Saturday with rookie catcher Austin Wynns.

This will be Wynns’ third stint with the Orioles this season. The 27-year-old batted .192/.192/.308 with a home run while throwing out three of five attempted base stealers in 10 major league games.

What to watch

1. Yefry Ramírez. The rookie right-hander has presented himself as someone who could be worth watching down the stretch this season, especially if the Orioles move any of their starting pitchers (although that isn’t necessarily a likelihood). He still fits into the mix at the moment with the club in need of a fifth starter. Before he allowed four runs in four innings his most recent time out, he had held opponents to one earned run his previous 10 innings.

2. Partners in misery. Although not at the Orioles’ level, the Rangers have joined Baltimore in having a rough season. Texas has a .432 winning percentage, the worst in the American League West and fifth worst in the AL. Could this weekend provide Zach Britton a platform, if he needs it, to showcase his stuff in another save situation as the deadline approaches?

3. Jones. Adam Jones is enduring a mini-slump his past five games, batting .143 with two of his three hits during that stretch being doubles. He’s still having a fine season at the plate, hitting .275 with 10 home runs and a .723 OPS.
