Major League Baseball announced Tuesday the nicknames that players will wear on their jerseys during Players’ Weekend on Aug. 23-25, and some Orioles put their creativity on display.

Unlike the colorful jerseys worn the past two years, teams will wear either all black or all white uniforms (decided by the home team), allowing the special cleats, gloves and other equipment players wear to pop against the single-color jerseys, pants and caps. Trey Mancini, who will wear “Boomer” on his jersey, is the Orioles’ Players’ Weekend ambassador and modeled their black uniforms to promote the event. The Orioles play the final three games of a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 23-25.

“I think the players love it,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. “Anytime you can add a positive fan experience from it, guys have fun with it obviously. Don’t take yourself too seriously in this tough business we’re all involved in. I think it’s great. I think it loosens things up. I know the players have a lot of fun with it.”

Hyde’s nickname is “Hyder.”

“Pretty boring,” he said.
