What to watch

1. Flying Birds. The Orioles are in the middle of their best stretch of the season, having won five of six games with the latest being a 19-hit outburst in a 17-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Orioles have outscored their opponents, 51-27, over their past six games, having scored at least five runs in each of the five victories. The Phillies, also winners of five of their past six, are one of the surprises of the National League. This will mark the teams’ first meeting at Camden Yards since June 16, 2015, when the Orioles hit a franchise-record eight home runs in a 19-3 victory.

2. Luck of the draw. The Phillies’ strength this season has been their pitching staff, one of the best in the NL, while their lineup has been middle of the pack. However, the Orioles seem to have lucked out this week, missing right-handers Aaron Nola (1.99 ERA), Jake Arrieta (2.59 ERA) and Zach Eflin (0.71 ERA). Nick Pivetta, the Phillies’ fourth-best starter thus far, starts Wednesday coming off one of his best starts of the year — five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and no walks in a win over the San Francisco Giants.

3. Quality Cashner. Andrew Cashner takes the mound after making his first quality start in nearly a month — three earned runs in six innings in the Orioles’ 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals six days ago. Cashner had a 7.98 ERA over his three previous starts, ballooning his ERA from 3.00 to 4.89 before he brought it back down a drop his last time out. Cashner has long excelled against the Phillies, going 4-1 with a 2.55 ERA in 13 career head-to-head appearances (seven starts). That includes a shutout in 2014.
