What to watch

1. Go for two. The Orioles arrive in New York going for their second straight win after losing six in a row. The Yankees have had the upper hand against the Orioles this year, taking nine of 15 meetings (including five of the past six) going into their final head-to-head series. The Orioles don't have much margin for error, as they're 4½ games out of the second wild-card spot with 16 games to go.

2. Need winning Wade. Wade Miley had won four of five decisions before taking the loss in each of his past two. The Orioles need that prior form against a Yankees team that has won nine of its past 13 games. Miley hasn't been downright bad since late July, but he is coming off an outing in which he allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings. He still has a 3.25 ERA over his past eight starts.

3. Tanaka time. If this was just one week ago, it would've appeared the Orioles would have little shot against Masahiro Tanaka, who had begun to look like his old self with a 2.08 ERA, 40 strikeouts and nine walks in his previous 39 innings. A week later, he's looking to respond to an outing in which he allowed seven runs in four innings. Which will the Orioles be up against tonight?
