What to watch
1. Still fighting. The Orioles go into this three-game series in Seattle with a chance to get an upper hand on the Mariners, who sit a half-game ahead in the wild-card race. The Angels currently hold the second wild card, with the Orioles 2½ games back. This will mark the teams' first meeting this season, but Safeco Field hasn't been kind to the Orioles, as they've lost six straight there including a no-hitter in 2015.
2. Hello again. The Orioles face Yovani Gallardo for the first time since trading him to the Mariners for Seth Smith in the offseason. Smith has been a quality addition for the Orioles, while Gallardo has not been the same for Seattle. The veteran right-hander is having a similar season to his one year with the Orioles in 2016, when he went 6-8 with a 5.42 ERA in 23 starts. He'll go head to head with Kevin Gausman, who had a 0.65 ERA in four starts before allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings five days ago.
3. Multi Machado. Manny Machado enters the series with three straight multihit games, going 7-for-14 with two doubles, a triple, a homer and three RBIs during that stretch. That hot streak has lifted Machado's average to .259 on the season, its highest point since April 8. See if he can make it four in a row out west.
