The Orioles made several roster moves before Wednesday's game to make room to activate closer Zach Britton and call up tonight's starting pitcher, Jayson Aquino.
The Orioles had already optioned right-hander Tyler Wilson to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday to clear one 25-man roster spot. They placed right-hander Chris Tillman on the paternity list Wednesday to open up the other spot.
Since Britton (left forearm strain) had to come off the 60-day disabled list, a 40-man roster spot was required. So, infielder Ryan Flaherty (right shoulder strain) was transferred from the 10-day DL to the 60-day DL.
1. Stop the slide. The Orioles have lost four of five as they aim to avoid a sweep in Milwaukee. They haven't been swept since June 9-11 at Yankee Stadium. Former Tampa Bay Rays starter Matt Garza stands in their way. He comes in 1-4 with a 5.94 ERA over his past seven starts.
2. Spot starter. Jayson Aquino was a spring training darling, but fell out of the rotation of pitchers on the Norfolk Shuttle after posting a 9.00 ERA in three major league appearances in April. The left-hander has a 3.22 ERA in his past four starts at Norfolk and a 4.53 ERA in 10 games since returning to the minors.
3. Still searching. The Orioles offense has been held to just three runs over the first two games of this series, and has scored three runs or fewer in six of the past eight games. That has been a big contributor to the club falling three games under .500 again. Will the Orioles snap out of it before heading to Minnesota?
