Orioles on deck: What to watch Wednesday at Nationals, plus lineups, broadcast info and more

Orioles (20-51) vs. Nationals (39-32)

Where: Nationals Park, Washington

First pitch: 7:05 p.m.

TV/Radio: MASN2/105.7 The Fan

Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Andrew Cashner (2-8, 4.98 ERA) vs. Nationals LHP Gio González (6-3, 3.01 ERA)

What to watch

1. Awakening bats. After scoring more than four runs only once and never more than five in 19 games, the Orioles have scored 17 runs over their past two games. They brought home 10 runs Sunday before putting up seven Tuesday, and will be looking to keep that going Wednesday. The Orioles’ seven runs in the series opener came on just seven hits, but three were homers and they added six other base runners on five walks and a hit batsman.

2. Cashner returns. Andrew Cashner (lower back strain) returns from the disabled list to make his first start since June 8. The right-hander’s season was trending up at the time he went on the DL, as he had pitched back-to-back quality starts for the first time since April.

3. Mancini’s production. Trey Mancini drove in just two runs runs in 28 games from May 16 to June 16. He has three RBIs over his past two games after hitting a two-run homer Tuesday. The Orioles could use more of that from the right-handed hitter against a tough lefty in Gio González. The Orioles might be catching González at the right time, however, as he’s allowed nine runs in 9 1/3 innings over his past two starts after he had a 1.81 ERA over his previous seven starts.
