Triple-A Norfolk
After needing 204 games in Double-A to earn a promotion to Triple-A, 25-year-old outfielder Mike Yastrzemski is making the most of his chance there. In his first 10 games, Yastrzemski had 15 hits, including five doubles, two homers and a triple, and batted .405/.477/.757. He also stolen four bases in his first five tries for the Tides.
Double-A Bowie
Left-hander Chris Lee pitched a career-high eight innings Monday, allowing a run on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts in a no-decision at Hartford. Lee didn't go fewer than six innings in any of his first eight appearances this year, and entered the weekend 5-0 with a 2.98 ERA in 51 1/3 innings. Lee had just 19 strikeouts, but paired it with a 1.95 groundout-to-flyout ratio on the season.
High-A Frederick
Left-hander John Means earned a quick promotion from the Carolina League this week. Means made four starts there last season, then posted a 1.80 ERA in nine starts this season to warrant a bump to Bowie. He had 54 strikeouts in 50 innings for the Keys, second most in the league, and his ERA ranked third in the league. He allowed just one home run with Frederick this season.
Low-A Delmarva
Left-hander Garrett Cleavinger, the Orioles' third-round draft pick in 2015, doesn't seem to be getting much of a challenge in the South Atlantic League. The former Oregon closer struck out 41 batters in his first 28 innings, giving him more than some Shorebirds starters. He entered Friday having racked up five wins in relief with a 1.61 ERA. He struck out six in three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief Thursday.
