It’s been nearly a decade since Orioles manager Brandon Hyde rode the buses as a minor league manager, meaning it’s quite possibly been that long since he saw just how much good a big order of Chick-fil-A can do.
The popular fast food restaurant, a staple of baseball diets for years, was Hyde and executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias’ choice as they made a donation Monday to feed the entire staff at Baltimore’s MedStar Harbor Hospital.
“During these difficult and uncertain times, the entire Orioles organization is grateful for the dedicated individuals supporting and protecting our community including healthcare workers, first responders, grocery store employees, public servants, and volunteers,” the team said in an announcement.
Hyde and Elias donated 645 Chick-fil-A meals to be split between the day- and night-shift workers at the hospital. Hyde also made a meal donation to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital system near the team’s spring training home in Sarasota, Florida.
The Orioles Charitable Foundation last week made a $5,000 donation to the Maryland Food Bank in honor of the frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic as part of their virtual Birdland Heroes program.
